A 16-year-old girl breaks the record as the youngest chartered accountant in Nigeria

16 year old Nigerian, Osasere Okundayemade history after becoming the youngest chartered accountant in the country, beating the previous national record and earning widespread praise from government officials and members of the public.
Okundaye achieved the milestone after successfully qualifying through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), a professional certification considered one of the most demanding in the country.
Her achievement comes at an age when many teenagers are still in high school.
The feat attracted national attention, with the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, describing her success as proof of what determined young Nigerians can achieve when given the right support and opportunities.

In a statement, Olawande congratulated the teenager, saying: “My heartiest congratulations to Miss Osasere Okundaye for her remarkable achievement of becoming the youngest Chartered Accountant in Nigeria at just 16 years old. This remarkable milestone is a testament to the power of hard work, discipline, resilience and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”
The minister also praised her determination, adding:Osasere stood out as a shining example of the unlimited potential of the Nigerian youth. Her achievement reminds us that with determination, dedication and the right support, young Nigerians can break barriers, set new records and inspire a generation to dream bigger and strive for excellence.”
He further acknowledged her parents, teachers and mentors for their contributions, noting that their encouragement and sacrifices played a significant role in her success.
Olawande also reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to support programs that to help young Nigerians realize their full potential.
The success surpasses the previous national record
Okundaye’s achievement surpasses the previous record set in 2022 by Jonathan Adewale, who became the youngest Chartered Accountant in Nigeria at the age of 17 after passing ICAN’s rigorous professional examinations.
Her achievement has drawn admiration across Nigeria, and is described by many as an inspiring example of academic excellence and determination.
Supporters believe her success will encourage more young people to gain professional qualifications early and strive for excellence regardless of age.
