“No election can change this government” – Isaac Fayose makes fresh accusations against INEC

Popular businessman and social commentator Isaac Fayose has sparked online backlash after making allegations about Nigeria’s electoral process and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a video circulating on social media, Fayose asserted that elections can no longer bring political change in the country, claiming that voter cards that have not been claimed by their owners are being used for political purposes.

“No party can win an election in Nigeria. I repeat, no party, no election can change this government. Look what they did in Ekiti. They said there were only 30,000 people who did not collect their voter cards. They were more than that, they are over 400,000,” he stated.

The social commentator further stated that unclaimed voter cards were handed over for use by non-indigenous people who were allegedly paid to participate in the electoral process.

According to him, the areas where the cards are allegedly used have recorded an unusual increase in voting power, while they are traditional voting strongholds experienced a decline.

“They are now handing out cards to non-indigenes and giving them ₦20,000 to go vote. Cards that should be under the supervision of INEC. So you can see why Boko Haram, banditry and kidnappings are growing in our country because good people are being set up that should change our fortunes.

“Nigeria is not responding. Elections cannot change the government in this country, I swear to God. Omo, the country is no more. INEC, shame on you,” he added.

His statements drew mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians expressing concern over the allegations, while others sought evidence to back up the claims.

As at the time of filing this report, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not publicly responded to Isaac Fayose’s allegations.
