- Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the detention of Sowore at the Kuja Detention Centre.

Nollywood actress and African Action Congress (AAC) governorship aspirant for Abia State in 2027 election, Doris Ogala, has reacted following the detention of activist Omoyela Sowora at Kuje prison.
On Monday, June 22, Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered that Sowore be remanded at the Kuje Detention Center after his bail was revoked last week.
The court also denied Sowore’s motion asking the trial judge to recuse himself from the case due to allegations of bias.
Sowore, who is also the AAC presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, is currently being prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) on cybercrime charges linked to a social media post in which he allegedly called President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a “criminal”.
In his ruling, Judge Umar ordered the activist to remain in custody pending the hearing of his plea challenging the revocation of bail and the issuance of a warrant against him.
The case was subsequently adjourned to June 24, 2026 for a motion hearing.
After the court session, Sowore said he was ready for prison and vowed to continue his activism despite the verdict.
he said:
“I am going to prison to continue mobilizing our people. The prosecution told the court that they must insist on sending me to Kuje prison until Wednesday. I came prepared. I even brought my prison bag.”
The activist also insisted that the situation is part of a larger struggle, adding that sacrifices must be made for the country’s progress.
“All this is happening for a good reason. Someone has to make a sacrifice that will benefit this country.”
Reacting outside the courtroom, Doris Ogala posted a video on her Instagram page in which she criticized the decision, claiming it was premeditated and stressing that Sowore was not afraid of jail time.
In the video she said:
“They already planned this and knew they were going to do it, but Sowore is not afraid to go to Kuje prison.”
In the title she wrote:
“Imagine sending @yelesho back to Kuje prison. Something they already planned to do. We are done in this country. Our justice system has failed us.”
In another clip, the actress, who earlier made headlines for her public spat with Pastor Chris Okafor, further expressed her disappointment over the turn of events.
She stated:
“This is completely wrong. The justice system failed us in Nigeria. They were already planning to take him to Kuje, we only came here to end the drama.”
