“She was told to kneel down to greet her parents…” – a Muslim father explains why he expelled his daughter from an Islamic school

Nigerian man caused backlash online after he shared why he allegedly expelled his daughter from an Islamic school.
In a post shared on Instagram by @eyeopener, the man explained that he became concerned when his daughter came home from school one day and walked past him and her mother without greeting them in the respectful way she was raised.
Recounting the event, he said:
“I withdrew my daughter from an Islamic school after she came home and refused to greet us properly. She said her teacher told them that kneeling to greet parents was a sin and could lead to hellfire.”
According to him, the incident caused immediate concern, prompting him to take his daughter back to school to ask the teacher for an explanation.
The father added that he was disappointed with the response he received, claiming that the teacher stuck to her teaching and attributed it to religious beliefs.
“At that point I knew I had a serious problem because it was a red flag. I took her back to school and confronted the teacher. The answer was simply, ‘Sorry, that’s what religion says.’
“For me, it was a clear sign that our children were deprived of their culture. I am a Muslim and a proud Yoruba man,” he added.
He further argued that respect for elders remains a fundamental part of Yoruba culture and that religious teachings should not erase positive cultural values that promote respect and good character.
His comments have since drawn mixed reactions online, with some supporting his stance on preserving cultural values, while others argued that religion and culture should be treated separately.
