“Don’t Blame Peller, Blame The System” – Daddy Freeze Responds To ‘Peller Culture’ Controversy

Popular media personality Papa Freeze joined the ongoing debate over “Peller culture”, claiming that the content creator Peller should not be blamed for the decline in academic excellence in Nigeria.
His comments come after the rapper Ycee criticized what he described as “Peller culture,” arguing that Nigerian society now rewards viral content over education and intellectual achievement, describing the trend as the “Olodo Uprising”.

Reacting to the controversy, Daddy Freeze said Peller only took advantage of a broken system and should not be held responsible for the declining value of education in the country.
“Yes, we have the Olodo culture in Nigeria. But I think it is unfair to blame Peller, who is an intelligent young man who took advantage of a broken system. He did not break the system,” he said.
According to him, the poor remuneration system in Nigeria has made education less attractive, noting that even highly qualified professionals earn salaries that do not reflect their expertise.
He gave the example of a professor of pediatric cardiology who he claims earns less than £700,000 a month despite teaching pediatric heart surgery.
Daddy Freeze argued that education no longer guarantees a comfortable middle-class lifestyle in Nigeria, which has contributed to a growing disinterest in academics.
He also questioned the country’s priorities, comparing the ₦100 million prize for winning Big Brother Naija to token prizes often given to top school leavers.
“What will you strive for? The best graduate or Big Brother?” he asked.
His remarks sparked fresh reactions online, with many Nigerians debating whether the country’s reward system, rather than content creators, is responsible for the dwindling value placed on education.
