Nigerian rapper Ycee has remained the subject of debate online following comments he made during a recent interview that quickly gained attention on social media.

During the conversation, the artist expressed concern about what he sees as the growing disregard for intelligence and academic achievement in today’s society. He argued that current trends seem to favor making room for people who may not excel academically, rather than promoting educational excellence.

His statements caused a wave of reactions on social networks, and users were divided over his point of view. While some agreed with his observations, others contested his views, leading to an intense online debate.

As the discussion continued, an old interview with the rapper resurfaced, prompting renewed scrutiny of his educational history.

In a throwback interview, the “Omo Alhaji” hitmaker revealed that he dropped out of the University of Lagos during his second year. He explained that he struggled academically, accumulating multiple transfer courses, which ultimately made him uncomfortable with continuing his studies.

Reflecting on the decision, Ycee stated that he chose to drop out of university and suggested that his music career may never have happened if he had finished his studies.

His words…

“I love level 200, the transfer doesn’t carry me. It got to the point where I wasn’t comfortable in school anymore because the attention was getting too much. If I had finished Unilag, I wouldn’t have done anything else.”
