Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has addressed the growing insecurity and increasing cases of kidnapping across Nigeria.

His comments came after the RCCG dismissed claims suggesting the priest had remained silent on national issues. The church clarified that Adeboye has constantly spoken on topics such as insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, elections and governance.

In a recent message he shared on his social media platforms, Adeboye explained the limitations of his influence in national decision-making.

“You can only advise the commander-in-chief. You cannot command him. Because if you command the commander-in-chief, then you become the commander-in-chief. That makes no sense. But I tried. And God is my witness.” he said.

He called on the government to take stronger measures against insecurity, suggesting that security chiefs should be given a clear deadline to deliver results.

“Quick. Get rid of these terrorists within 90 days or resign,” he said.

Adeboye also referred to a past instance when the former president issued a similar directive to service chiefs, although it was not fully implemented.

Recounting the incident, he noted that he later visited the late president after the deadline without tangible results.

“When three months have passed and the work is not done, why didn’t you follow through on your threat? I won’t tell you the details, but one thing came out of that meeting that leads me to my next piece of advice,” he said.

He further emphasized that any renewed directive should not only target armed groups, but also those who support them.

“When we issue orders to service chiefs this time, we should make it clear to them that they need to eliminate not only terrorists, but also their sponsors – no matter how influential they are,” Adeboye stated.

Addressing his community, he concluded by calling for swift action from the government, saying: “I talk to you like my children. If I were asked to make suggestions, I would quietly say to our government, move quickly.”
