“Not every Fulani is a bandit” – Portable condemns ethnic profiling due to insecurity

Controversial singer Portable has called on Nigerians to stop labeling all Fulani people as bandits, stressing that crime should not be associated with an entire ethnic group.
The singer said many people wrongly assume that anyone who looks or dresses like a Fulani is involved in criminal activities, adding that such assumptions could lead to innocent people being targeted.

“Please stop making the mistake of labeling all Fulanis as bandits. I am not involved. Since you see a squad of Fulanis inside a bus, you will only conclude that they are bandits. They are not bandits.”
“Some are Hausa, some are their families, Fulani. Some raise cows, some sell peppers, and others are engaged in business,” he said.
Portable noted that different ethnic groups live and do business across Nigeria, noting that as there are many The Fulani people of the Southwestthe north is also home to many Yoruba and Igbo peoples.
He further stated that the fight against insecurity should focus on criminals and not on innocent individuals who share a similar appearance or cultural background with the perpetrators.
“We fight bandits. Let’s face the bandits. It’s not about beating anyone you see who looks like Fulani. No. They can dress like them. Yoruba is among them, Igbo is among them, Hausa is among them, Fulani is among them. All tribes are among them,” he added.
His comments sparked conversations online, with some agreeing that the crime should not be linked to any particular ethnic group, while others shared differing opinions on the issue.
Portable’s remarks come amid ongoing debates about insecurity in Nigeria and the importance of avoiding ethnic profiling while dealing with criminal activities.
