“When they realized they couldn’t talk about projects, good laws, removal of subsidies, they recruited boys to cause mayhem” — Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has accused political opponents of spreading negative stories about Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu administration.

He made the remarks while addressing the audience, insisting that critics are struggling to challenge the government’s performance and reforms in key sectors.

Accusations of distraction and political tactics

Akpabio said opposition figures often claim that “nothing happens in Nigeria under the administration of President Bula Metinibu” during election periods.

He asserted that such claims were politically motivated and designed to influence public opinion ahead of the elections.

According to him, “when they realize they can’t talk about projects, when they realize they can’t talk about performance, when they realize they can’t talk about good laws,” critics resort to other tactics.

He further stated that some individuals “recruiting them to wreak havoc across the country.”

Security issues and public warning

The Senate President also warned Nigerians to remain vigilant amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the country.

He suggested that some kidnapping incidents are aimed at creating fear and portraying Nigeria as insecure.

Akpabio said security agencies have performed well in dealing with the challenges, although their efforts have not been widely acknowledged.

He added that “the devil you see today, you will not see him again,”, urging citizens to remain full of hope.

Political view

He concluded by pointing out that the elections are temporary and should not permanently divide the country.

According to him, “elections will come and go” and “elections will never be the end of us”.
