Nigerian music star Davido drew attention to the plight of abducted school children and teachers from Oyo State after appearing on stage wearing a customized jacket with their names and the message “Bring them home”.
The singer wore a black jacket ahead of his performance at the FIFA Club World Cup, with name tags of affected children and teachers allegedly pinned over the clothing.
The gesture was widely interpreted as a sign of solidarity with the victims and their families amid growing concerns for their safety and ongoing efforts to secure their release.
Taking the message to the international stage, Davido used his global platform to amplify calls for the safe return of those still in captivity and draw international attention to the kidnapping crisis that has engulfed parts of Nigeria.
Photos and videos of the event quickly circulated online, with many Nigerians praising the singer for using a major global sporting event to draw attention to the situation and stand up for the victims.
In other news… Edo State Governor, nMonday Okpebholo, has accused political opponents of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of fomenting insecurity across the country in an attempt to undermine the administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governor said this on Tuesday during the campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the local government council elections in Edo South Senatorial District.
“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. What is happening today is the work of the opposition,” Okpebholo said.
He claimed that the recent increase in kidnappings and insecurity was politically motivated and designed to create fear among Nigerians to weaken support for the president.
“They failed. Didn’t they fail? Was it because they kidnapped children? Then who will you rule? You will have no one to rule. So let them give us peace so that we can rule well,” he added.
In one of the most memorable moments of the speech, the governor stated:
“They can even kidnap us all, yes, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock.”
Okpebholo argued that violence and instability cannot secure political power, insisting that Senate seats, House of Representatives seats, governorships and presidential seats should be won through democratic means and not through fear or chaos.
He also praised the leadership of President Tinubu, saying the administration has already made visible progress through infrastructure projects and reforms, including the controversial abolition of fuel subsidies.
