“I broke it off immediately” — a 38-year-old woman ended the relationship after a cooking test at her future mother-in-law’s house

38-year-old woman ended her relationship after a weekend visit to her boyfriend’s mother turned into what she described as an unexpected “cooking test” for suitability for marriage.

According to her statement shared by a friend, she was invited by her future mother-in-law to spend the weekend at her house, an invitation she accepted with excitement and anticipation of rapprochement.

A weekend visit turns into a cooking task

Upon arrival, she was asked to prepare egusi and vegetable soup using ingredients already bought at the market.

Hoping to impress, she quickly turned to YouTube for guidance, but ended up with a meal described as too salty after tasting it.

The situation escalated when the woman allegedly assessed her cooking and expressed concern about her readiness for marriage.

The 38-year-old explained her decision after the meeting:

Any woman who takes cookery exams before marriage will certainly want to control her marriage.”

The relationship ends after the verdict

She was given six months to improve her cooking skills before further thinking about marriage.

But instead of accepting the condition, after returning home she called her boyfriend and immediately ended the relationship.

She stated that she was uncomfortable with what she perceived as a test of domestic control rather than partnership expectations.

The incident has since sparked a hushed debate about the societal expectations placed on women during marriage, especially in a traditional family setting where domestic skills are often tested.

While some see such tests as cultural preparation for marriage, others argue that they reflect outdated expectations that can strain modern relationships before they even begin.
