A family dispute broke out after the woman allegedly finished her off marriage following her husband’s alleged infidelity, which sparked a wide-ranging discussion on social media about faith, despair and marital responsibility.
The controversy began after user X shared the story of a distant aunt who left her husband after discovering he had been in a relationship with another woman during a period of extended spiritual separation she undertook in hopes of conceiving a child.
According to the account, a woman and her husband spent 14 years without children, a situation that allegedly exposed her to emotional stress and pressure from relatives and society.
The search for a child led on a spiritual journey
User X claimed that after years of visiting churches, services and places of prayer without success, the woman was introduced by a friend to a prophet in Ikot-Ekpene who was believed to help couples facing fertility problems.
Without informing her husband beforehand, she allegedly traveled to meet a cleric and later returned with instructions she said were given by a prophet.
The instructions reportedly included a strict 70-day period of fasting and prayer that required complete separation from one’s husband. According to the post, the couple were instructed not to share a room, eat together or engage in activities that would bring them into close contact.
The woman’s husband was said to have objected to the arrangement, questioning the necessity of such restrictions. However, she reportedly insisted that the sacrifice was necessary, arguing that the search for the child was worth the temporary hardship.
The marriage dissolves before the end of the fast
The situation reportedly changed dramatically before the end of the fasting period.
According to the social media account, the woman discovered her husband was having an affair with another woman during the separation period. Devastated by the turn of events, she reportedly packed her belongings and left the marriage.
Instead of getting sympathy, the woman is reportedly facing criticism from some family members who blame her decision to indulge in spiritual practices without the full support of her husband.
Many reportedly believe that the prolonged separation created the conditions that led to the breakdown of the marriage.
