Falana and Falz lead protest in Lagos over insecurity on Democracy Day

  • Human rights lawyer Femi Falana and his son, rapper Falz, have joined other Lagos residents in a Democracy Day protest demanding immediate action on insecurity, kidnappings and economic hardship.
  • The protests were part of wider protests across the country organized by civil society groups and youth movements calling for safer schools, improved living conditions, job creation and relief from rising inflation.

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), his son Falz and other Lagosians took to the streets on Democracy Day to protest the growing insecurity and economic hardship across the country.

The demonstrations were part of coordinated protests held in Lagos and other cities, where participants demanded immediate government action to address kidnappings, murders, unemployment, inflation and other challenges facing Nigerians.

Placards displayed by protesters highlighted the insecurity in several parts of the country, while participants called for safer communities and better protection of citizens.

Falz, who has been vocal about insecurity, has questioned the continued operation of schools amid repeated reports of abductions and attacks on students.

The protest was reportedly organized by civil society groups, labor unions, youth organizations and members of the #EndBadGovernance movement.

The event sparked reactions on social media, with Nigerians expressing different opinions.

@tosin_olarewaju: “If the government doesn’t know what to do, we’ll start teaching them how to do it.”

@mebangz20_10_20: “Here you realize that Sowore has no consideration in Nigeria, who would throw tear gas on these people?”

@saintxylr: “So if the insecurity didn’t reach Lagos they wouldn’t protest? How greedy.”

@Omosalako2: “So if VeryDarkMan hadn’t started this, none of these people would have come out to protest bad government.”

@iam_7even: “Good to see Joe Okei Odumakin back on the field.”

@muyiwa_50138: “Be like u say protest don’t become competition for naija now ooo. VDM had his own and his supporters say he’s the best. Many people say theirs is the best. And now our SAN dey owns.”

Despite differing opinions online, the protest remained focused on calls for improved security, safer schools, economic relief and stronger government action to address citizen concerns.
