“I was fired because I refused to lead the opening prayer” – A man shouts about discrimination in the workplace

Nigerian man has sparked widespread online backlash after claiming he lost his newly secured job because he refused to lead the company’s opening prayer.

In a now-viral video shared on TikTok, he explained that he had only resumed work a day earlier when, as the newest employee, he was asked to lead morning prayers.

According to him, he politely refused with the explanation that he deconstructed from Christianity is no longer identified with faith.

“I told them, no, I can’t, because I’ve already deconstructed myself from Christianity and I don’t believe in all that”, he said.

He claimed that his answer was met with unpleasant looks from his colleagues, but he did not think about it until the next day.

Upon arriving at work, he said he was instructed to check his e-mail, where he allegedly learned that his employment had been terminated.

Expressing disappointment, the man questioned whether the decision reflected Christian values, arguing that such treatment could discourage anyone considering returning to the faith.

“I was sad because I don’t understand. Is this even the behavior of Christ? Even if I wanted to return to Christianity, with this attitude, do they think they will? It’s really crazy. I have a degree and skills and frankly I’m fed up,” he added.

The incident has since sparked a debate on social media, with many users questioning whether religious beliefs should influence hiring decisions.
