“Lagos is more expensive than Los Angeles” – BNXN sparked the debate

  • The BNXN singer claims that living in Lagos is more expensive than living in Los Angeles, arguing that Lagosians face additional social and financial pressures beyond the basic cost of living.
  • The artist said that since coming to the United States, he has not experienced the constant demands for money that he often encounters at home, adding that housing is the only major expense he has noticed in Los Angeles.

Nigerian singer BNXN, formerly known as Buju, has sparked a debate online after she stated that living in Lagos is more expensive than living in Los Angeles, California.

The music star made this observation while reflecting on his experience in the United States, noting that one thing he immediately noticed was the lack of constant financial obligations and demands that often come with living in Nigeria.

According to BNXN, since arriving in the US, he has not encountered the kind of social pressure that often comes from acquaintances, relatives or community members seeking financial assistance.

“I was telling someone, since I arrived in the United States, I have not seen any egbon adugbo asking me to press money,” he said.

The singer claimed that despite Los Angeles being globally known as one of the most expensive cities in America, everyday life in Lagos can seem more financially demanding due to the many unofficial expenses and expectations.

“Lagos is too expensive. Lagos is more expensive than LA (Los Angeles),” BNXN stated.

He further explained that, from his perspective, housing appears to be the primary major expense in Los Angeles, while residents are generally left to manage their own lives without many of the additional social and financial pressures common in Nigeria.

“The only thing that’s expensive in LA is housing. Here you just pay the rent and you’re good,” he added.
