Omoni Oboli releases movie in honor of late Alexx Ekubo, intends to donate proceeds to family

Nollywood actress and director Omoni Oboli has paid tribute to her late friend and colleague Alex Ekubo after his burial, announcing a special gesture to honor his legacy.

The actor was laid to rest on Thursday, June 18, 2026, in Arochukwu, Abia State after a vigil attended by family, friends and several Nollywood colleagues including Ini Edo, IK Ogbonna, Mike Godson, Ayo Makun and others.

After the funeral, Omoni Oboli took to her Instagram page to express gratitude to God for the successful funeral ceremony and reflected on the emotional experience.

In her tribute, she announced that she will release her film The First Lady on her YouTube channel in memory of Alex Ekubo, with proceeds from the project going directly to his family.

She wrote:

“We laid our beloved Alexx to rest in the glory of God. Thank you, Jesus!
In memory of him and in honor of his legacy, I am playing our film THE FIRST LADY on Omoni Oboli TV on YouTube until 5 pm. Proceeds will go to the family, so please help us spread it around.
I love you all very much, best friends
Alexx Ekubo! You came, you saw! You won! You are forever in our hearts, dear. I love you forever”

She also added that the tribute video was recorded earlier that day before she attended the funeral, describing the event as beautiful and emotionally painful.
