Peter Obi praised the music star Davido as he used his performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup countdown concert to draw global attention to Nigeria’s security challenges and the plight of abducted school children.
The former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Democratic Congress of Nigeria for the 2027 election made the remarks in a statement shared at his official X lunch on Sunday.
Davido appeared on stage wearing a customized leather jacket with the names of the students and teachers who were recently abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The jacket also had bold lettering on the back that read: “BRING THEM HOME.”

Obi also addressed Nigeria’s absence from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, arguing that the country’s challenge is not a lack of talent but a failure of leadership.
“Nigeria’s absence from the World Cup, as I stated earlier, does not stem from a lack of talent, but from a glaring lack of political leadership that has failed to create an enabling environment for talent to develop…”
