Nollywood actress Mary Njoku has expressed concern over the recent spate of child abductions in the country, questioning the silence and seeming inaction surrounding the issue.
In a post she shared on her Instagram story, she expressed her deep frustration, saying she woke up feeling angry, heartbroken and emotionally disturbed by the situation.
She wondered if the abducted children were simply forgotten and if nothing could really be done to save them.
Njoku also questioned whether society is expected to carry on as if nothing had happened, suggesting that Nigerians may be becoming less sensitive to recurring reports of bandits, kidnappings and worsening insecurity.
Her words…
“I woke up this morning, angry, heartbroken and deeply disturbed.
Are we really going to say that these abducted children simply disappeared?
Are we saying that nothing more can be done?
That innocent children and young children can disappear and we are somehow expected to carry on as if nothing happened?
Have we become so numb to the endless reports of bandits, kidnappings and insecurity in Nigeria that they hardly move us anymore?
Is this what we have accepted as normal?”.
