“The family could not take the risk, the mechanic voluntarily delivers 30 million pounds of ransom to the kidnappers” — a man shares an emotional story

AND mechanic in Taraba State has attracted attention after he allegedly risked his life to deliver a ransom of ₦30 million for the release of a customer who had been kidnapped.

According to an account published online, the victim’s kidnappers initially demanded ₦50 million. However, after the family sold some of his properties and vehicles, they were only able to raise £30 million.

The kidnappers later agreed to accept the reduced amount and ordered the money to be delivered to Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

They allegedly warned that only one person should bring the ransom and that any mistake could cost the victim his life.

The family struggles to find a volunteer

The family faced a difficult challenge after raising the money, as no relative was willing to undertake the dangerous journey.

Although the victim’s son volunteered, he was deemed too young to take such a risk.

As days passed without payment, the kidnappers allegedly threatened to kill the victim.

The situation changed when the man’s mechanic learned of the ordeal and offered to deliver the ransom. The incident occurred during the period of cashless policy in Nigeria, when the kidnappers demanded payment in Cameroonian currency.

The mechanic traveled to Karim Lamid and later walked for almost two hours after commercial motorcycle drivers allegedly refused to take him to the location given by the kidnappers.

The long journey ends with the release of the victim

According to the report, gunmen eventually met the mechanic and transported him deeper into the wooded area where the ransom was confirmed.

The victim was not present at the place, but the kidnappers convinced the mechanic that he it will be released after the money is confirmed.

After the ransom was accepted, the kidnappers released the victim in Gombe State, returned his phone and allowed him to contact his family.

The mechanic later discovered that the kidnappers had deliberately taken him a long way while delivering the money, only for him to discover a much shorter route to town that took less than ten minutes.

The story sparked a debate online, especially after it was learned that the mechanic’s wife was heavily pregnant at the time.

Many social media users described his actions as an extraordinary act of loyalty and bravery, while others highlighted the dangers facing the kidnap-affected communities in parts of Nigeria.
