“The seer said the child was a python” — A woman threw a five-year-old child into the Edo River

AND woman was detained by community members in Edo State after she allegedly threw her five-year-old child into a river, following instructions allegedly given by a self-proclaimed seer in Benin City.
The incident took place in Ovia North East Local State Area and first came to light on Tuesday after video footage circulated on social media, sparking widespread shock and outrage.
According to statements shared with the footage, the woman was allegedly told by a priest that the child was a python in human form and responsible for her inability to have more children.
In the video, the woman allegedly claimed she struggled to get pregnant again after giving birth to the child, who she said had been unable to walk since birth. She said this prompted her to seek spiritual help.
She further alleged that a self-proclaimed seer in Benin City told her that the child was the cause of her fertility problems and advised her to get rid of him.
““The psychic told me that the child was a python and that if I didn’t get rid of the child, I would either continue to give birth to children in the same condition or I would never get pregnant again,” she quoted.
Following the alleged instruction, she allegedly threw the child into the river.
The incident has since sparked strong reactions online, with many condemning the act and questioning the influence of the self-proclaimed spiritual leaders.
Neki gledatelji opisali su taj čin kao neoprostiv, dok su drugi izrazili pomiješane emocije, pri čemu su neki krivili navodnu vidjelicu, a drugi dovodili u pitanje odluku žene.
