“This is not decent” – Ossai Ovie criticizes Omoni Oboli’s film dedicated to Alexx Ekubo

  • Ossai Ovie, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor of Delta State, has criticized actress Omoni Oboli.
  • Criticism was directed at the release of “The First Lady,” starring the late actor Alexx Ekubo.
  • Ossai considered the timing of the film’s premiere, shortly after Ekubo’s burial, inappropriate.

Ossai Ovie, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor of Delta State, has publicly criticized Nollywood actress and director Omoni Oboli for releasing a movie featuring late actor Alexx Ekubo shortly after his burial.

In a post he shared on his X and Instagram pages on June 18, Ossai slammed the First Lady’s YouTube premiere, describing her timing as inappropriate and suggesting she appeared to be exploiting the grief for promotional gain.

He claimed that even though Omoni Oboli stated that all proceeds from the film would be donated to the family of Alexx Ekubo, the release still gave the impression of a publicity strategy rather than a sincere tribute.

Ossai also accepted the actress’ explanation that the film marked the beginning of her long-standing friendship with the late actor more than a decade ago. However, he insisted that linking the project to the death of Alexx Ekubo was disturbing and poorly thought out.

He further accused her of using emotional sentiments to drive engagement and grow her online platform under the guise of paying tribute to the late actor.

The governor’s assistant pointed out that grief should not be turned into content, stressing that funerals are not promotional events.

According to him, Alexx Ekubo should be celebrated for his life, achievements and influence, rather than his memory being tied to a movie release.

He added that if a tribute was indeed intended, the announcement could have been delayed out of respect.

Ossai concluded by calling on the public to preserve the dignity of the dead and avoid turning a personal tragedy into social media content or entertainment promotion.
