“You’ve been praying since 1960.” – Daddy Freeze targets Mike Bamiloye and the church

  • Daddy Freeze criticizes veteran gospel movie director Mike Bamiloye for defending Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
  • The criticism comes amid concerns over a worsening security situation in Nigeria, including kidnappings and violent attacks.
  • Some Nigerians question Adeboye’s lack of public protests against these issues under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Media personality Daddy Freeze has taken aim at veteran gospel filmmaker Mike Bamiloye for his recent comments in defense of Pastor Enoch Adeboye amid criticism over the worsening security challenges in Nigeria.

The debate started after some Nigerians questioned why the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God did not publicly lead demonstrations against the growing wave of kidnappings and violent attacks under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Responding to the criticism, Mike Bamiloye argued that it was unreasonable to expect the 84-year-old priest to participate in street protests, especially after the recent abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State. According to him, the primary responsibility of the church is to remain steadfast in prayer, seeking God’s intervention and peace for the nation.

However, Daddy Freeze strongly disagrees with that view. In a video shared on Instagram, the broadcaster challenged the idea that only prayer can solve the country’s problems.

He cited countries like Singapore and China as examples of countries that have achieved significant development through strategic planning, discipline and effective governance rather than relying solely on religious practices.

“Prayer is not a strategy. Hope is not a strategy. Singapore gained its independence five years after us. How did they get to where they are today, that their passport is the strongest in the world? Was it through prayer? Did China get where they got by praying?” he said.

Daddy Freeze further argued that churches have spent decades praying for Nigeria without producing the desired transformation, suggesting that the institution should focus more on inculcating moral values and promoting social responsibility.

“How can you tell me that the job of the church is to pray for Nigeria? That means the church has failed, because since 1960, you people have been praying, there is no result,” he said.

The media personality also claimed that the greatest task of the church should be to teach love, unity and discipline among its members. According to him, the widespread absence of these values in society is proof that religious institutions have not fully fulfilled their mission.

“Teach your members to love one another. The work of the church is to teach love, and the first thing you notice is missing in Nigeria is that love. As a nation, our faith, especially Pentecostalism, has failed,” he added.
