Leeds move for Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi

Premier League player Leeds United they are reportedly mulling a move for the Super Eagles left-back Zaida Sanusi while they want to strengthen their team ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The FC Porto defender has emerged as a potential target for manager Daniel Farke, who is looking to add experience and depth to his defensive options following injury concerns at left-back last season.

Sanusi, 29, remains one of the most experienced players in Porto’s squad, despite spending much of the campaign as second choice. He played in 11 league games, but returned to regular minutes towards the end of the season.

The contract situation raises Leeds’ hopes

Leeds’ interest in Sanusi is not entirely new. The Nigeria international previously dismissed reports linking him with a move to Elland Road last year.

“I am not in contact with Leeds United or any team at the moment. I am not negotiating with Leeds United and I have not been offered a four-year contract. They lied about it,” Sanusi said at the time.

However, circumstances have changed significantly since then. The 32-capped Super Eagles defender has just one year left on his current deal with Porto, putting the Portuguese club under pressure to decide his future.

Although Porto are reportedly preparing to open talks over a contract extension, failure to reach an agreement could force the club to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him for free next year.

An affordable option for Farke

Leeds are believed to be examining several options at left-back, including Borussia Dortmund defender Daniel Svensson, but Sanusi is seen as a more affordable alternative.

According to Transfermarkt, the market value of the Nigerian is around 3 million euros. His UEFA Champions League experience and success in Portugal make him an attractive option for a club looking for proven quality at a reasonable price.

Reports suggest that Leeds could secure his services for a fee of between €2m and €4m if contract talks between Sanusi and Porto fail to come to fruition.
