“I’m a 46-year-old Yoruba woman, I’ve never been married before” – Lady reveals why

46 year old Nigerian woman caused reactions on the Internet after she openly explained why she never considered marriage a priority in her life.
Speaking in the now-viral video, the woman said she had never been married, engaged or interested in anything related to marriage.
Marriage was never my priority
As she says, she never fantasized or looked forward to weddings marriage.
She explained that despite being in relationships in the past, including ones that lasted up to 5 years, settling down was never something she wanted.
She said:
“I am 46 years old, Nigerian, Yoruba, never married before, never engaged, never looked at wedding pictures, never looked at wedding dresses, never looked at event venues, never come close to it.”
It’s a personal choice
The woman stressed that her decision was not due to rejection or lack of attention from men.
She said:
“Before you say maybe it’s because no man likes you. I’ve been in a relationship for two years, I think the longest is about four or five years, but baby, it’s never, never, never been my priority. It’s just, I don’t want this shit, like, since I was young.
My views were influenced by my childhood experiences
Reflecting on her upbringing in Nigeria, she said she grew up in a home that many would consider stable.
She explained:
“Because I grew up in Nigeria, I grew up in a predominantly professional life, like my mother and father were together until my mother died. I grew up, what you would think, as a very good side of a Nigerian.
However, she said her observations of marriage over time shaped the way she viewed relationships.
Observing marriage through data and experience
Describing herself as a data analyst currently studying data engineering and concepts related to artificial intelligence, she said she tends to evaluate decisions through observation and patterns.
She said:
“I’m a data analyst. I’m currently in a data engineering class, and one thing I understand is that when you want to predict the future, you collect data and go by history.”
She explained that seeing past and present marriages around her influenced her thinking.
“Go to history. Go to the history of marriages in our communities, current marriages in our communities, everything I saw growing up, the way our grandfathers treated our grandmothers, the way our fathers treated our mothers, the way our mothers endured and suffered.”
She added:
“From my youth I looked at myself and said, Temitayo, marriage will not be your portion.”
“My biggest fear in life is to stick to a motherfucker and be miserable with him. I’d rather be miserable alone. I’ve never seen the excitement behind it, I’ve never seen the love behind it, all the married women I know are miserable, I’ve never seen any married couple that I look at and say, ah, I want to be like this, ah, this is a great example, ah, I prefer a man like this, I’ve never met a Nigerian husband, Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa, and I would be like, ah, if that man is my, no, ah, the way he treats his wife, nothing, f*cking single, so why the hell would I want to get attached to any of these jerks, I haven’t seen anything, except on social media, people we don’t know, and this is information that we can’t really predict or fact check, because we don’t know if it’s real or not…”
