Corper laments rising cost of living in Abuja, says pocket money is no longer enough

National Youth Corps (NYSC) member expresses frustration at the ever-increasing cost of living in Abuja, especially due to rising prices of food items.

In a video shared on social media, the corps member complained about the price of tomatoes, claiming that ₦500 can only buy five at a local shop market.

The correspondent said they were shocked by the experience and struggled with daily expenses.

A visibly frustrated youth choir member complained that the monthly allowance, popularly known as “allawee”, is almost entirely spent on food expenses, leaving little or nothing for other needs.

According to the corper, serving in Abuja has become financially challenging due to the high prices of basic necessities.

Her words…

“Guys what exactly is going on in Abuja and I don’t know?! I am just coming back from the market where I went to buy things for cooking. Guys, 500 tomatoes were only 5 pieces. Does that mean each tomato is 100 Naira? You are not making life easy for Corpers in Abuja. My only mistake was that I came to serve in Abuja. I don’t even have any savings anymore. All my allawee is finished and of course I have to eat, I am tired and I want food back to the village…”
