Former governor of Anambra State and NDC presidential candidate, Petar Obi talks about his financial journey, revealing that his involvement in policy significantly reduced his personal wealth despite his business success.

Speaking during a public engagement in a video that surfaced online, Obi displayed what he said was his American Express Platinum and Centurion (Black) cards, using them to illustrate their financial situation before entering the policy.

According to him, he was among a select group of individuals who had the American Express Platinum Card when it was introduced in 1987 and later received the exclusive Centurion Card, better known as the Black Card.

Obi stated that he built a sustainable and successful business before entering public service. However, he noted that his decision to enter politics had a financial cost.

Although he admitted that politics has made him less wealthy than he was before, Obi insisted that he has no regrets about his decision to serve in public service.

He said in part…

“In 1987 American Express introduced a platinum card for 5000 people, here’s mine, later they introduced a black card (Centurion card) in 1999 for 1000 people on the planet, here’s mine. I had a viable job and although I don’t regret going into politics, it made me poorer…”
