Tinubu Appoints Former UNILAG VC Oluwatoyin Ogundipe NUC President

President It hurts Tinubu has appointed Oluwatoyin Ogundipethe former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, for the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Universities Commission.
Ogundipe follows Professor Emeritus Olufemi Aina, who resigned from his post less than a year after being appointed.
Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, made the announcement in a statement issued on Monday.
The Presidency stated, “Professor Ogundipe succeeds Emeritus Professor Olufemi Raphael Aina, who resigned after less than a year in office.”
It is also stated, “It will oversee the regulatory body of the Nigerian university system, focusing on funding, global competitiveness and academic stability.”
The statement further stated, “The appointment is aimed at improving quality, access and integrity in the education sector.”
As announced by the Presidency, “President Tinubu expects Professor Ogundipe to provide visionary leadership in the National Universities Commission and maintain the credibility of the Nigerian university system in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
From 2017 to 2022, Ogundipe, a professor of botany, was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos.
He is focused on molecular taxonomy of plants, biosystematics, ethnobotany, cytogenetics, forensic botany and environmental conservation.
He holds a PhD in Botany from the Obafemi Awolowo University and an MBA from the University of Lagos.
The 66-year-old educator is currently serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University in Ede, Osun State.
