Apply for the 2026 Education USA Nigeria Opportunity Fund Program

The United States Mission in Nigeria has invited qualified Nigerian students seeking higher education opportunities in the United States to apply for the 2026 cohort of the EducationUSA Nigeria Opportunity Fund Program (OFP).
According to a notice released by the US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria, the application period began on June 15 and ends on June 30.
EducationUSA Nigeria coordinates the program which falls under the public diplomacy arm of the US mission.
According to the announcement, the aim of the scheme is to assist academically excellent Nigerian students with leadership potential to pursue further education in the United States.

According to the mission, the project promotes access to higher education in the US while advancing “American leadership, trade diplomacy, and the shared economic interests of the United States and Nigeria.”
It also noted that the 2026 cohort coincides with Freedom 250, which marks 250 years of American leadership, innovation and democratic values.
“Freedom 250 marks 250 years of American leadership, innovation, and democratic values, and the OFP 2026 cohort will advance these priorities by preparing globally competitive talent aligned with U.S. economic and strategic interests,” it is stated in the press release.
The mission said the initiative reinforces U.S. goals for “safe, lawful, and well-governed student participation” in U.S. institutions of higher education.
It said high-performing students studying in fields aligned with US strategic interests would be given priority.
The program also covers necessary initial application costs, such as standardized testing fees, application fees and other related costs.
It further states that eligible applicants must demonstrate academic distinction, leadership potential, a desire for post-secondary education in the United States, outstanding achievement, research ability, and a commitment to visa compliance and responsible participation in US exchange programs.
The mission stated that participants are expected to maintain high ethical standards throughout the curriculum.
It states that applicants must submit a full application form, academic record, personal statement, evidence of achievement, leadership and research abilities, as well as other supporting documents, by the deadline.
