Speaking about his long-standing admiration for the singer, Layi said he has been a fan of Wizkid since the early days of his career and often discussed comparisons between Wizkid and David during his schooling.
He noted that there was a phase when he became less interested in Wizkid’s sound, especially when the artist began to embrace a calmer and more reflective musical style.
According to him, this period coincided with his preference for energetic songs that focused on hustle, struggle and ambition.
However, Layi explained that as his life situation improved, so did his taste in music. He added that he later came to appreciate Wizkid’s softer and more casual style again, saying that his personal development has influenced how he relates to music.
“I was a fan of Wizkid from the beginning. I had a lot of fights at school because of Wizkid and David. When he started making light music, I kept complaining that I had to hear the fight, but I started enjoying Wizkid’s music again when my life got better,” he said.
