The court set a date for making a decision on a new investigation in the case of Mohbad’s death

  • The Federal High Court in Abuja will on September 29 pronounce judgment in connection with the investigation into the death of singer Mohbad.
  • Justice James Omotosho announced the date after hearing arguments from Chief Tunde Falola.
  • The case involves registered trustees of the Break the Silence Foundation seeking a reopening of the investigation.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled September 29 for judgment in a case that calls for the resumption of investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of the late singer Mohbad.

On Thursday, June 25, Justice James Omotosho announced the date after hearing arguments from Chief Tunde Falola, counsel to the registered trustees of the Break the Silence Foundation.

The foundation filed a lawsuit, urging the court to order the Nigerian police to reopen its investigation into Mohbad’s death.

However, the Inspector General of Police, Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, all named as respondents, were absent and unrepresented during the proceedings.

Without counter-arguments, Falola accepted all the proceedings filed on behalf of the foundation and asked the court to grant the relief sought.

He claimed that the initial police investigation failed to properly address several key questions surrounding the singer’s death.

Speaking after the hearing, Falola asserted that the group remains dissatisfied with the earlier findings, insisting that critical questions and clues remain unresolved.

he said: “The circumstances surrounding his death remain mysterious and deserve public attention. As a human rights organization seeking justice, we believe the police should reopen the investigation.”

According to him, the goal of the lawsuit is to ensure that law enforcement authorities conduct a more thorough and transparent review of the case.

The court also heard an application by one Samson Obaboye, who sought to join him in the suit, stating that he supports calls for accountability and wants to contribute relevant information.

However, Justice Omotosho dismissed the application, ruling that Obaboye had not demonstrated sufficient legal interest to warrant joining the case.

This decision means that the case will only proceed with the main application requesting a new investigation.

Meanwhile, Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi Aloba, has reportedly filed a defamation suit against TikToker Oladimeji Hammed, popularly known as Immunizer.

The social media personality posted videos making claims about Wunma amid her ongoing dispute with her father-in-law over the paternity of her son Liam, including claims she planned to leave the country during the controversy.
