“You don’t deserve respect” – Peller tells YCee back

- Popular streamer Peller has reacted strongly to Nigerian rapper Ycee’s criticism of “Peller culture”.
- Ycee’s comments underscore the social shift away from valuing academic success in Nigeria.
- He believes that many young people prioritize fame and fortune through “stupid content” on social networks.

Popular streamer and content creator Peller has hit back at Nigerian rapper Ycee following his recent comments criticizing what he called the “Peller culture” in the country.
In a viral interview, Ycee expressed concern that Nigerian society is moving away from valuing academic achievement. He argued that many young people now believe they can achieve fame and fortune by engaging in what he described as “stupid content” online, as such posts tend to generate views, engagement and revenue.
Peller, however, was unimpressed by the remarks, especially those that appeared to be aimed directly at him. He questioned the rapper’s stance and perceived disrespect towards digital creators.
“Some OG’s don’t deserve respect. This kind Ycee man, now see how the older man is talking. You people bring music promotion to so called olodo, on the same these people don’t promote and beg with small money,” he wrote.
He went on to argue that many artists who criticize content creators still depend heavily on influencers and streamers to promote their music and increase their visibility.
According to him, content creators now play a major role in the entertainment ecosystem by helping musicians reach a wider audience through social media platforms.
“Don’t give money online. When you don’t want to promote music, those same people still don’t run to meet,” he added.
The exchange drew mixed reactions online, with some agreeing with Ycee’s concerns about declining academic values, while others supported Peller’s view that content creation has become a legitimate and influential career path.
The ongoing debate continues to fuel conversations about the growing power of social media creators in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
