“I would rather marry a poor man than a rich man”

Eyiyemi Afolayan, the daughter of a Nollywood actor and director Kunle Afolayansparked reactions online after opening up about her views on relationships, wealth and marriage.
Speaking during an interview with the BBC, the young actress explained why she would rather marry a financially modest man than a rich partner.
Eyiyemi explains her relationship desires
According to Eyiyema, money can sometimes influence how people behave in relationships.
She shared that she would rather be with someone who is hardworking and independent than someone whose financial situation could affect commitment and loyalty.
“I can support a man, but I cannot feed him”
While talking about marriage expectations, Eyiyemi said she would not want to be solely responsible for financially caring for her partner.
However, she added that she has no problem supporting her husband if he is already doing something meaningful.
In her words:
“I can’t build with a man. Why can’t I build with a man? You know men; they’re ungrateful.
If I marry a man who has no money and I see money, if I marry him, he will stay with me, not because he loves me, but because he has no money to flirt around.”
She added:
“I was born into wealth. Any man who wants to marry me has to do something for himself. I can’t feed him, but I can support him.”
The actress rejects polygamy
Eyiyemi also made it clear that she would never agree to become a second or third wife.
According to her, she believes that polygamous homes often come with complications and unnecessary challenges.
She said:
“I can’t be the second or third wife of any man. It’s not because I’m jealous or anything like that. A polygamous home brings a lot of problems.”
He talks about his father’s choice
Despite her personal views, Eyiyemi said she respects her father’s decisions and believes he should live the life he chooses.
She added that she and her siblings will continue to support him regardless of his decisions.
