Neymar in line to return to Brazil ahead of crucial clash against Scotland

Brazil it could be fueled by the star’s forward return Neymar when they face Scotland in the final game of Group C on 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 34-year-old has been declared free after recovering from injury, raising the possibility of his first appearance for Brazil since 2023.

Neymar ready after a long absence

Neymar has not featured for Brazil since suffering a serious knee injury against Uruguay during a World Cup qualifier three years ago.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star missed Brazil’s opening group stage matches against Morocco and Haiti but returned to full training last week.

He also took part in his first tactical session under head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who confirmed the veteran striker is fit enough to be considered for selection.

“Neymar is available,” Ancelotti told reporters. “He worked this week and he can be available for the game. We are very happy that he is back because, obviously, with his quality he can help the team.”

Brazil aim for knockout qualification

Brazil enters Group C in first place with four points and is in a good position to secure a place in the round of 16.

A win over Scotland would guarantee top spot in the group, while a draw could be enough depending on the outcome of the other group matches.

Although Ancelotti has not confirmed whether Neymar will start, his return provides another attacking option for a side looking to make a deep run at the tournament.

Scotland chases history

Meanwhile, Scotland are aiming for a historic breakthrough as they seek qualification for the knockout stages of a major international tournament for the first time.

The Scots are guaranteed to finish at least third in the group and stay firmly in contention.
