Arsenal’s head of sports science Tom Allen is leaving the club

Arsenal continued their behind-the-scenes restructuring with a head of sports science and performance Tom Allen becoming the latest senior member of staff to leave the Premier League champions.

Allen, who joined the club from Aston Villa in 2017, oversaw the performance of the first team in the areas of sports science, nutrition, fitness and performance support.

His departure comes just weeks after Arsenal secured their first Premier League title in 22 years.

Behind-the-scenes overhaul is accelerating

Allen follows head of medical Dr Zaf Iqbal and head performance coach Sam Wilson from the club as Arsenal continue a comprehensive review of their medical and performance departments.

The changes come after a season in which Mikel Arteta’s side have struggled with a string of injury setbacks, with several key first-team players spending long spells on the sidelines despite the club’s successful title campaign.

The overhaul is being carried out following an internal assessment of the Arsenal’s medical and performance operations.

An external expert has a key role

The review included external medical expert Joaquin Acedo, who previously worked with Arteta during their time at Everton.

Sources close to the process say Acedo played a significant role in shaping the changes being implemented this summer.

Arsenal have yet to announce replacements for the outgoing medical and performance team members as preparations for the 2026-27 season continue.
