FG bans okada, keke marwa on Lagos-Calabar coastal highway

The Federal Ministry of Works has declared a ban on commercial motorcycles and tricycles on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
Olufemi Dare, the Federal Superintendent of Works in Lagos State, announced the ban, which takes effect this week, in a statement issued on Sunday.
Mr. Dare explained that the decision was made to protect newly constructed sections of the highway from abuse and damage.
He explained that the actions are necessary to maintain the route and ensure its long-term sustainability.
The official further stated that indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles will no longer be allowed.
According to him, the ban applies to the coastal highway and all bridges in Lagos State.
The ministry also prohibits the indiscriminate dumping of waste along highway lanes, calling the practice inappropriate.
Mr Dare warned that violators would face tough enforcement measures as authorities worked to maintain order.
He said restriction signs were already posted along the highway.
Mr Dare said taskforce officers would be stationed in critical areas to ensure compliance.
He hailed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a “world-class infrastructure” that must be properly maintained and protected.
The authorities asked all road users to follow the instructions for the safety of citizens.
He stressed that the preservation of the facility would prolong its life and ensure its usefulness to Nigerians.
