“We lost her two weeks after she returned home…” — complains the lady

AND woman shared the heartbreaking story of a colleague who was abducted on her way home from work earlier this year and later died by suicide weeks after her release.

The report, which has been widely circulated on social media in Nigeria, described the emotional and financial toll the incident allegedly took on the victim, her family and those who worked with her.

According to the narrator, the victim’s family spent weeks negotiating with the kidnappers after the initial ransom demand.

She said relatives, friends and well-wishers contributed funds and secured loans before finally raising the amount required for the woman’s release.

The family’s fight for freedom

Describing the events, the woman said the victim’s parents faced immense pressure as they tried to secure her freedom.

Parents ran from place to place to collect the ransom after negotiations reduced demand. Family members and friends contributed as much as they could until the money was collected.” she said.

She further said that the victim later revealed that she had experienced severe abuse while in captivity, leaving her traumatized after her release.

Trauma after release

The narrator said that the woman struggled emotionally in the days that followed her return home.

She told us the conditions in which she was detained. Two weeks after she came back, we lost her,“, recounted the colleague.

The story has reignited debates about insecurity, post-trauma support and the well-being of abduction survivors.

Similar debates emerged in 2024 after reports of kidnapping victims requiring long-term psychological care after their release.

While the allegations contained in the social media post have yet to be independently confirmed, the story has sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians calling for stronger security measures and improved mental health support for survivors of violent crime.
