Gospel singer and worship leader Victoria Orenze has sparked widespread reactions after she openly expressed her frustration with some preachers and Christians who she believes are misusing God’s name for personal gain.
In a strongly worded statement, she said she was disappointed in certain church leaders and believers who, she said, were exploiting the faith for profit.
“Honestly, I am disappointed in some ministers, churchgoers, who only use the name of the Lord for profit!” she said.
Orenze also criticized those who judge government performance based on personal gains rather than the welfare of the majority. She questioned claims that the government was functioning well, insisting that many Nigerians were still suffering under poor leadership.
“Which government is working? The Nigerian government, politicians and leaders have failed Nigeria and Nigerians. Period,” she stated.
She further accused some individuals of speaking in the name of God while ignoring injustice and atrocities, claiming that their opinions are often driven by self-interest rather than concern for people.
“Those who do not hear GOD, but still want to speak in HIS name! Whenever a few benefit from the government, they say the government works…GOD CANNOT BE MOCKED!” she added.
Describing how she called “Belly Christianity,” Orenze said such attitudes reflect selfish motives rather than genuine faith or concern for the welfare of the nation.
Her remarks have since sparked debate online, with many interpreting her comments as a subtle response to fellow gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori, who recently praised the efforts of President Bola Tinubu and security agencies in the ongoing efforts to secure the release of the kidnapped school children and staff of Oyo State, while calling for prayers.

@mide4eva:”Victoria, who made you a judge over Adeyinka’s beliefs? Are you God? Did you call/send her? Are your beliefs 100% error proof? This opinion is very condescending to a fellow priest!”
@mikeabdulnaija:”The point can be made without attacking any minister.
@meeldread:”Fr!! This is no time to sugarcoat things. This government is not working. If you can’t say it, then don’t say anything. Very simple!! Thank you mom.”
@bethel_cakes:”Good question! An auntie said they do. Sometimes it’s better to keep quiet than say things that make you feel numb. God forbid, if her kids were in the bush with those kids, would she say that?”
@the_nifemiii:”adeyinkaalaseyori just imagine any of your children in a situation like kidnapped children, would you open your useless mouth to say what you said?”
