Omewa, Oshoala fired Nigeria against Senegal in a 3-0 friendly win

The Super Falcons Nigeria produced another flawless performance, beating Senegal 3-0 in an international friendly at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday, maintaining their strong form ahead of the 2026 African Women’s Cup of Nations.

Nottingham Forest forward Joy Omewa led the charge with a goal, while Asisat Oshoala added a late third goal as Nigeria overcame the Teranga Lionesses after a tight first half.

This match marked the second meeting between the two sides in four days, with Nigeria also winning the previous meeting 2-1 at the same venue.

The surge in the second half breaks the resistance of Senegal

Despite controlling possession for long periods in the first half, Nigeria failed to convert their dominance into goals before the break.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and midfielder Toni Payne orchestrated play from midfield, creating several chances, but Senegal remained compact in defense to frustrate the Super Falcons.

The breakthrough came four minutes into the restart when Omewa rose highest to meet Shukurat Oladipo’s well-delivered cross, heading home to give Nigeria the lead.

Momentum shifted decisively in Nigeria’s favor soon after, with Omewa striking again in the 52nd minute.

She took advantage of a defensive error, dislodged the Senegalese defender and finished clinically to double the lead.

Oshoala sealed a convincing victory

Omewa was later substituted for veteran striker Asisato Oshoala, who wasted no time in making an impact.

In the 66th minute, Ajibade burst into the penalty area before slotting across goal, allowing Oshoala to tap in from close range for Nigeria’s third goal.

The result extends Nigeria’s unbeaten record against Senegal, with four wins and one draw in five meetings between the two teams.

It also bolsters the record of head coach Justine Madugu, who has now recorded 12 wins, three draws and two defeats in 17 games since taking charge.

Madugu’s only defeat was in friendly matches against Cameroon and France. He guided Nigeria to their 10th African Women’s Cup of Nations title last year and will now focus on defending their crown in Morocco next month.
