Nigerian comedian, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has faced a backlash online following a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) in which he spoke about poor governance in Nigeria.

The entertainer and father of two criticized poor leadership and advised Nigerians not to support leaders who do not prioritize the welfare of the people.

In his post, he used a metaphor, suggesting that while some individuals think they are protected or removed from the consequences of a failed system, such “bulwarks” may eventually disappear, leaving everyone to face the same reality.

He further emphasized that when the system breaks down, it ultimately affects all citizens equally, regardless of social class, influence or political connection.

However, the announcement caused mixed reactions on social networks. While some users agreed with his message, others heavily criticized him in the comments.

A number of commentators mocked him by mentioning the fire that destroyed his property many years ago, and some suggested with insensitive comments that he could face a similar misfortune again.

Others have brought up his past marriage, citing political connections in its breakdown and using it as a basis for questioning his motivation to speak out against the government.

The controversy has since sparked heated debates online, with users divided between supporting AY’s views on governance and criticizing his message and personal life references.

That reality will haunt you for the rest of your life, so we can understand your hatred for anything APC! You better go and work hard on taking care of your kids before you give another man your pickin’ to take care of. Go away.”
