Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzato as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 election.
Hamzat’s opponent in the elections will be Princess Damilola Sonayon-James.
Sanwo-Olu made this known in an announcement at his verified X lunch on Thursday, describing the duo as a leadership team capable of sustaining and expanding development across Lagos State.
He said the decision reflects the administration’s commitment to continuity, competence and inclusive governance, adding that effective leadership depends on trusting capable hands with a clear vision for the future.
The governor also praised Hamzat’s performance in office, describing him as a trusted partner in governance and a dedicated public servant.
“Dr. Obafemi Hamzat has proven himself to be a dedicated public servant, a reliable partner in governance and a staunch advocate for progress,” he wrote.
Sanwo-Ola was further praised by Sonayon-James, describing her as a sustainability expert and local development advocate.
The announcement has since attracted attention as political activities have begun to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections in Lagos State.
