A viral tip shared on social media

The man advised kidnap victims to use social media as a first response tool, rather than alerting security operatives directly.

He further suggested that the post should include insults directed at a senior government official, along with their full name, before leaving the phone.

He was quoted as saying:

Safety advice. This is a safety tip for everyone in Nigeria. If you are kidnapped by robbers, the moment you are kidnapped, when you have access to your phone, do not call the police, do not call DSS, do not call anyone.

Just a tweet. Post a post on social media insulting a high-ranking government official and insult him by his full name. Then drop the phone.

In the next 24 hours, they will find you and your location. Thank me later.”
