“Bring Them Home” – Davido refuses to back down after criticism from Ren Omokri after using the Global FIFA Stage

- Davido used his appearance at the FIFA World Cup concert in Los Angeles to draw attention to the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, wearing clothes with the names of the victims and the message “Bring them home”.
- Reno Omokri criticized the move, arguing that excessive publicity surrounding the kidnapping incidents could be counterproductive.
- Davido, however, responded by continuing to share the message of the campaign without directly addressing the criticism.

Nigerian music star Davido has reacted after former presidential aide Reno Omokri criticized his decision to use the FIFA global event to highlight the plight of abducted school children and teachers in Oyo state.
The controversy started after Davido appeared at the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles wearing customized clothing with the names of 39 kidnapped school children and seven teachers who were allegedly abducted from communities in Oyo State.
The black jacket featured the words “Bring Them Home” in bold, while his inner shirt read “Nigeria”, turning his performance into a public appeal for the safe return of the victims.
After the event, Davido reinforced the message in a social media post, simply writing, “TAKE THEM HOME.”
Reacting to the gesture, Reno Omokri questioned the strategy of drawing international attention to the kidnapping cases.
He argued that excessive publicity can sometimes have unintended consequences, citing a popular quote often attributed to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher that “Publicity is the oxygen of terrorism.”
According to Omokri, while Davido’s intentions may have been noble, amplifying such incidents on major global platforms could inadvertently serve the interests of criminal groups.
Instead of directly engaging in the public exchange, Davido appears to have maintained his stance by sharing more photos from the FIFA concert and repeating his message.
“BRING THEM HOME,“, the singer wrote again, signaling his continued support for efforts aimed at freeing the kidnapped students and teachers.
