Ashley Janaeborn Ashly Robinson, died aged 31 while on holiday with her boyfriend Joe McCann in Zanzibar, Tanzania, where they celebrated her birthday on April 5.
She was reportedly found unresponsive in her luxury resort villa and pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Zuberi Chembera, deputy director of criminal investigations, said in a statement carried by local media. According to The Citizen, investigations have shown that Ashly was experiencing emotional distress as a result of her personal situation.
He also indicated that text messages exchanged between the deceased and her fiance revealed ongoing concerns about her personal difficulties.
“We determined that the deceased was under mental pain based on witness statements and examination of communication devices belonging to her and her fiance. SMS chats revealed continuous complaints about her living situations,” he said.
He stated that the investigation, which was carried out with the support of other agencies, concluded that no one was guilty of the death and that the case was closed.
April’s initial records identified her immediate cause of death as cerebral hypoxia caused by strangulation and suffocation.
Police also claimed that Robinson and McCann had a falling out before her murder, which caused hotel managers to move the pair to different rooms.
McCann described her death as an “incomprehensible tragedy”.
