Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has responded to the backlash following her recent remarks on the kidnapping of students and teachers in Oyo State.
The singer has previously faced heavy criticism after suggesting that spiritual influences could affect security agencies’ efforts to rescue kidnapped victims. Her comments came amid widespread concern over the abduction of school children and teachers in Oriira Local Government Area of the state.
Following the backlash, some Nigerians accused her of appearing to justify or defend government institutions at a time when families were anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones.
In a new video shared on Instagram on Wednesday, Alaseyori lamented how her comments were received, saying she was saddened by the public interpretation of her words.
According to her, she later realized that many people felt that her remarks undermined the pain and frustration of the affected families.
She explained:
“Two days ago, I made a video about abducted children, touching on the government, parastatals and all agencies. But when I woke up yesterday, I discovered that some well-meaning Nigerians were not happy about it, because I made them feel that their voices were not being heard.”
She claimed that it was never her intention to diminish anyone’s experience or pain.
Directly addressing the mothers and relatives of the kidnapped victims, she apologized and asked for forgiveness.
“You know me too well to ever make you feel that way. Mother, don’t be offended. I’m sorry. I beg you in the name of God. Please forgive me. I would never think like that. Forgive and forgive me,” she said.
