“I begged for N2m” — Lady calls out replacement company for offering N1.3m, unfavorable terms

Nigerian woman sparked a wave of online backlash after a viral video in which she recounted her desperate attempt to become a surrogate mother six years ago.
In an emotional display of everything, she called out surrogacy agencies for exploitation, detailing the strict isolation conditions she had to endure for ₦1.3 million.
The woman, who is now a successful entrepreneur, used her story to highlight the lengths vulnerable women often go to in order to survive financially, while also sending a message of hope to single mothers and divorcees.
Controversial conditions of surrogacy
In the video, the unnamed woman detailed the strict conditions attached to the agency’s £1.3 million offer.
According to her testimony, the surrogacy contract required complete separation from her support system for the duration of the pregnancy.
The terms of the agency included:
Total fee: Final payout of ₦1.3 million after delivery.
Monthly stipend: ₦50,000 monthly feeding allowance during pregnancy.
Mandatory relocation: Stay exclusively in accommodation provided by the agency.
Strict isolation: A complete ban on visiting family or receiving any visitors for a full nine months.
“How would they offer me 1.3 million Naira to carry a child? These surrogate companies, they are very evil,” she stated in the video. “They will carry my child and I will be back on the street with stretch marks for 1.3 million Naira.”
A background of desperation and resilience
Sharing the deeply personal context behind her decision, the woman explained that the incident happened six years ago after a difficult divorce that left her with nothing.
After walking away from her car, job and possessions, she was left to care for two small boys without any financial resources.
Determined to rebuild her life, she left her children in the care of her mother and moved to Lagos with dreams of attending fashion school.
After discovering she couldn’t afford the tuition, she turned to surrogacy as a last resort to raise funds.
Based on her past difficult pregnancies – including a near-death experience during her second pregnancy that required a blood transfusion – she negotiated for a higher compensation of ₦2 million.
“I know what it means to be pregnant because I was… I am a mother of two children. I know how I couldn’t sleep for nine months. I was vomiting, my body ached, I was uncomfortable,” she recalled. “I begged them (for ₦2 million). I didn’t want to do all that for 1.3 million.”
The agency refused to match her asking price and she eventually walked away from the job.
“That money is nothing now”: A message of hope
Ending the video on a triumphant note, the woman expressed deep gratitude for her personal and financial progress since that dark period.
She noted that the £1.3m she once begged for is now an amount she spends casually on plane tickets or jewellery.
Her story has since resonated deeply with netizens, sparking conversations about the regulation of surrogacy in Nigeria and the protection of vulnerable women.
She ended her video with a heartfelt message to women facing similar difficulties:
“If you are a single mother, if you are divorced, if you are going through something, just know that your life will get better. Just hold on. Hang in there, my dears.”
