“I never asked for his alms” – a woman shouts as her husband files for divorce because of his daughter’s wedding
Based in the UK Nigerian woman she wailed online after her husband allegedly left home and filed for divorce following a disagreement over her daughter’s upcoming wedding.
The story, shared as an anonymous confession, caused numerous reactions on the Internet.
Her husband raised her daughter for 16 years
The woman explained that her Nigerian ex-husband left her and them daughter 16 years ago when the child was 10 years old.
She said:
“…My husband left the house in the past few days and is now talking about divorce based on cheating. I live in the UK. Sixteen years ago, my Nigerian ex-husband left me and our 10-year-old daughter. It was very difficult for us. Then I met my current husband, a white man who showed me and my daughter genuine love. He married me, took full responsibility and was the only father my daughter knew for the last 16 years, he was everything paid, while my ex-husband refused to access.
Wedding plans
She revealed that her daughter, now 26, is in serious negotiations to marry a man from a wealthy and prestigious Yoruba family in the UK with strong ties to Nigeria and Britain.
Tensions reportedly started when plans for traditional wedding ceremonies were discussed.
“Now my daughter is 26 and in serious marriage talks with a man from a very rich and prestigious Yoruba family here in the UK. They have deep roots and strong connections in both Nigeria and Britain.
“When the family began to discuss the traditional introduction and wedding plans, I made it clear that my daughter’s biological father must be involved in key parts of the ceremony, including the walk to the altar, in order to present a proper, cohesive image of the Yoruba family,” she stated.
The husband feels betrayed
She said her husband was deeply hurt by her decision, insisting that he was present throughout the child’s upbringing.
“My white husband is furious. He feels deeply betrayed after 16 years of sacrifice. He feels he is the one who stood by her and me and should walk her down the aisle.”
The debate gets heated
She explained that the situation escalated during an argument, where she made a statement that she now regrets, as her husband is now seeking a divorce.
“In the heat of an argument about this matter one evening I told him I never asked for his handouts. He decided to step in and I accepted because I had a child to protect.”
“Those words have now become the main issue. He says I’ve been cheating on him all these years and I’ve been served with divorce papers. He’s also withdrawn all the financial support he originally promised for the wedding, which is very significant because my daughter’s father is not contributing any money to the actual wedding.”
“I still love him. He was a good man to both of us. But for my daughter’s future and this marriage into such a distinguished family, I have to project the right image. I can’t compromise on that… Am I wrong to tell the truth? Am I wrong to want the best presentation for my daughter’s future? My heart is heavy.”
