“One slap made him drop the charger cable” — Mother questions effectiveness of gentle parenting

AND mother’s a humorous account of her experience with gentle parenting sparked backlash online after she compared her approach to her husband’s when trying to stop their toddler from chewing on a charger cable.

Parenting styles spark debate

A woman shared a story while examining how gentle parenting works in practice. According to her, her husband rarely needs to repeat instructions before their son, identified as Eden, obeys them.

She explained that the incident happened when she noticed that her child was chewing on the charger cable. Instead of reprimanding him immediately, she took a softer approach and politely asked him to stop.

However, the answer she received from the child surprised her and prompted her to think about gentle parenting achieving the desired result at that moment.

“So how exactly does this gentle parenting work? My husband is not gentle parenting and he doesn’t have to repeat himself twice for Eden to listen. I, Mrs. Gentle Parenting, nicely asked Eden, ‘honey, can you please stop chewing on my original charger cable?’ He looked me straight in the eye and then raised his finger and waved it in my face saying ‘no no no no no no no’. I lit one for him and he dropped the cord.”

Post online reactions

The account quickly gained attention on social media, where users discussed different parenting methods and discipline strategies.

While some commentators found the story amusing, others used it to discuss the ongoing debate between gentle parenting and more traditional approaches to child discipline.

The discussion also highlighted the challenges many parents face when trying to balance patience, communication and obedience in raising young children.

As reactions continue to pour in, the post has become part of a larger conversation about parenting styles and how different families deal with discipline at home.
