Oshoala uses Senegal’s victory to demand the release of kidnapped Oyo schoolteachers

Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoala sent a strong message calling for the rescue of abducted teachers and students after they helped Super Falcons secure a 2-1 win over Senegal in a friendly on Friday.
The veteran striker scored Nigeria’s first goal from the penalty spot in the first half at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, but her celebration drew widespread attention.
After converting from 12 yards, Oshoala held up a wristband that read: “Save the teachers. Bring back our children,” using the opportunity to highlight the recent kidnapping of dozens of students and teachers in Oyo state.
Oshoala shines in Falcons win
The friendly served as part of Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 African Women’s Cup of Nations and the Super Falcons showed their quality against the Teranga Lionesses.
Oshoala broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute for Toni Payne to double Nigeria’s lead shortly before half-time.
Senegal pulled a goal back at the end of the match in the 86th minute, but the nine-time African champions managed to win.

The result gave head coach Justine Madugu plenty of positives ahead of the continental championships, although Nigeria missed several opportunities that could have led to a more comfortable result.
Striker highlights the Oyo kidnapping crisis
Oshoala’s message was linked to the kidnapping of 46 people in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Gunmen reportedly attacked three schools on May 15, abducting 39 students and seven teachers. Two staff members were reportedly killed during the incident.
The affected schools include Baptism Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Grammar School in Esiele and LA Primary School in Ahoro-Esinele.
The kidnappings have sparked concern across the country, with growing calls for authorities to step up efforts to secure the release of the victims.
Showing off the bracelet during the goal celebration, Oshoala used her platform to keep attention on the incident and advocate for the safe return of the abductees.
The Super Falcons will face Senegal again in the second friendly on Monday as they continue their preparations for next year’s African Women’s Cup of Nations.
