VeryDarkMan argues that the military benefits from insecurity, raising concerns about funding and accountability

Social media activist and commentator VeryDarkMan has questioned the way the Nigerian military is handling the ongoing challenges of insecurity in the country, drawing comparisons between past and current responses to attacks.

In a video he shared on his Instagram page, he recalled how communities were allegedly treated in the past whenever soldiers were attacked, saying entire areas often faced collective punishment regardless of individual involvement.

“I remember back then, if anything happens in any community that involves members of the Nigerian Army, that whole community, they will shut it down. Whether you are among them or not, they will beat you up,” he said.

VeryDarkMan also expressed concern over the reported abduction of an army general and his wife by bandits, questioning why the place where he was allegedly held was not raided.

According to him, the answer to the recent incidents related to insecurity raise questions about liability and transparency in the system.

“Fast forward to 2026, the bandits kidnapped the entire general, took him to the bush… The general was in the bush until he passed. They took his dead body to bring back to the community.

After he died, they carried the woman and released her, till date the Nigerian army has not invaded that bush,” he said. claimed.

He further stated that insecurity could persist due to problems over the management of security funds, calling for tighter controls on how resources are allocated and used.

His comments have since sparked a renewed debate online, with many Nigerians debating the military’s responsibility and the need for stronger action against banditry and kidnappings across the country.
