Nigerian disc jockey and activist DJ Switch has criticized First Lady Remi Tinubu for her recent advice encouraging Nigerian women to consider starting small businesses like selling akar and kuli-kuli.
Reacting in an Instagram post, DJ Switch asserted that while many countries are investing in infrastructure and creating opportunities for the development of their citizens, Nigerians are instead being encouraged to venture into small businesses.
In her words:
“Without any due respect, Remi! Lightning fires you! While other nations are creating spaces and infrastructure for the development of their people for this rapidly technologically advancing world, you want us to sell coolies? And the Otondo are nodding their greedy necks behind you! I can’t describe how much I despise you.”
Her remarks have since sparked a new debate online, with social media users expressing mixed reactions to both the First Lady’s comments and DJ Switch’s response.
